DreamLife S60 Hints and Tips

Making it easier

Check out these hints and tips on using DreamLife. If you have any hints and tips of your own and you'd like to share them, why not post them on the support forum?

After downloading the trial version and installing it, you'll be prompted with a registration dialog.  Just Cancel this to go into trial mode, which lasts for 14 days.
If you need to jump to a date that is not in the next few days or weeks, you can quickly jump there by tapping on the date displayed at the top of the screen, between the 2 arrows. Tapping here will popup a dialog which lets you quickly enter the date you want to jump to.
The date that first appears in the dialog is today's date, so just choose OK to just straight to today.
You can quickly go to the next or previous week or month by tapping on the left and right arrows at the top of the screen.  Another easier option is to use gestures instead of the left and right arrow to drag the page in the direction you want it to go (eg. to the left to push the current page into the past).
If your work and lifestyle involves a different schedule from the normal 9 to 5 work day, you can change the core hours so that activities of your day or week are always shown in the centre of the screen rather than having to scroll up and down. The exception is when your first activity of the day is outside of your core starting hour. In this case, DreamLife will always show the first event of the day. To change your core hours, from Options choose Settings > Preferences. In the Planner tab, choose Core hours start time to change to desired start time. Then press OK and Save.
If you prefer activity details to display automatically each time you scroll to an activity, simply choose Options > Settings > Preferences. In the Popups tab, select Auto popup and change to the desired activity information type.  You can also set how long and how fast you want the details to be shown. Once set, details will be shown every time you scroll to an activity without the need to choose Open.
When you are viewing an activity, you can drag about or scroll through the content of the detail popup to see more.
For fewer key presses and shorter input time when searching a contact, try KeyMatch instead of the normal methods. You can activate it in the list view by choosing Options > Find > KeyMatch. Key match is sort of like predictive text, and will match each letter represented by each keypress, so pressing "2" will search for "2, a,b or c" and so forth. For example, to search for "Simon," you would only need to press "7, 4, 6, 6 and 6" once each instead of having to press each key multiple times to select the correct letter.
From the contact list, scroll to the contact you want to edit and press the select key twice on non-touch phones to go straight to the editor. For touch screen phones, tap on the contact to go to the details view, then tap on the contact name to start editing.
By holding down the menu key on your phone, you will bring up an application list. If for example you want to go straight to DreamLife from another application, simply hold in the menu key until you get the list of open applications, and select the DreamLife icon.
You can access zoom quickly without going into the menu by using the volume control on the side of your smartphone. Simply press volume up to zoom in and down to zoom out. There are five levels of zoom, and the level you select is remembered.
In order to see the day's activities or better identify available time slots, you can use the phone's volume control to zoom in and out of the day planner view on the right while editing an activity.
When adding an address from the contact database to an activity, be careful not to delete the bracketed ID that appears at the end of the location details in the activity editor. Otherwise, it will be treated as information manually edited in and will not be linkable from the activity's details.
By using a 3rd party tool, you can easily send invitations to attendees of an event. Just note that when adding contacts to the event, choose either Home or Work if a contact has more than one email address.  This will make sure that DreamLife looks up and provides the correct email address for you to send the invitation.  You then need to sync to a third party calendar using Exchange or CalDAV syncing.
