DreamSend Defect 002

Contact field selection problems

Number 002
Title Contact field selection problems
Synopsis

Some contacts are selectable when they have spaces in matching fields, and some contact fields get selected incorrectly.

The problem is due to the collision of two "features" in Nokia's implementation of the Contacts Server.

  1. Empty fields that Nokia wants visible when editing a contact using Contacts are not, in fact, empty, but contain a single space. However, the Contacts Server is made aware of this and doesn't record the fields as having meaningful data.
  2. Nokia's vCard export routines erroneously export these spaces, and the import routines record the spaces as actual data, which the Contacts Server now regards as meaningful data.

When contacts have been exported from one Series 60 phone and imported into another, they will now have numerous fields containing spaces, marked as meaningful data.

DreamSend is unaware of this, and presents these fields as valid recipient addresses/phone numbers to the user.

DreamSend should filter out all such empty fields, even if the Contacts Server believes they are not empty.
